IT'S more than 80 years since the good folk of Blackburn had a new sport to enjoy - going to the dogs.
For a greyhound track and stadium, built in the Green Bank area of town, held its first meeting in 1933.
This image shows the 400 yard track, off Crabtree Street and Hill Street - can anyone remember the pub that stood alone on the corner - and backing on to the Leeds Liverpool canal.
There's also a main stand, which comprised club rooms and a refreshment bar, where crowds would congregate, initially on Monday and Friday evenings, before racing nights were changed to three evenings a week.
At its height, in the 1940s, the stadium recorded a turnover of almost £530,000 - by the late sixties, however, it had dropped to under £300,000.
The stadium closed in 1984 after the site was sold to Tesco’s.
In the bottom right of the photo is the Burnley Road and Accrington Road junction, where the former Printer's Arms pub once stood and Furthergate, runs along the bottom.
Harwood Street already has a few industrial units - with cars and vans parked in the rear yards - while in the top right is the former four storey Imperial Ring Mill, off Gorse Street, which was built in 1901.
