JOHANN Berg Gudmundsson is confident he has done enough to show Sean Dyche that he should be starting games for Burnley.

The Iceland winger came off the bench for the Clarets against West Ham last week, hitting the post with a shot of his own before setting up the equaliser for Chris Wood with a fine piece of wing play.

Now Gudmundsson is hoping that cameo will see him elevated to the starting line-up for Saturday's daunting trip to face league leaders Manchester City.

The 26-year-old hasn't started a Premier League game since the 1-1 draw at Liverpool on September 16, with Jeff Hendrick's returning seeing Scott Arfield pushed out wide and Gudmundsson dropping to the bench.

But his two goals for Iceland in the international break and his game changing contribution against the Hammers could see a return to the starting line-up at the Etihad.

"I want to start from the beginning, that's what every footballer wants, but obviously if you're on the bench and you come on you've got to show that you should be starting from the first minute. I think I've done that," Gudmundsson said.

"It's all about working every day in training because it's a tough team to get in. There's great competition so it's about training well and playing well when you get the chance."

Burnley's six game unbeaten league run will face the ultimate test this weekend against Pep Guardiola's free scoring league leaders.

City were 7-2 winners over Stoke on Saturday, before following that up with a 2-1 win over Napoli in the Champions League.

Their last three home games have yielded 17 goals, but the Clarets are unbeaten on their travels this season.

They have already won at Chelsea and Everton, as well as claiming draws at Tottenham and Liverpool, and Gudmundsson insists they can the confidence gained from that run to the Etihad,

"They are in great form and it's going to be a tough game but we've shown that we can do well against the big boys," he said.

"We've had some good results against Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool so hopefully we can do the same.

"It's a game where we've got nothing to lose. Man City are in great form but we've shown this season that we can do it against the big boys. We've got some great results so hopefully we can do the same. We know it's going to be a tough one."
