FIFTY years in Freemasonry have been toasted by a former RAF man.

The golden jubilee celebrations for Graham Brooks at Kendal Masonic Hall saw him presented with a framed certificate and a bottle of his favourite whisky.

Mr Brooks, who is married to Wendy, has been a member of Kendal's Trinity Lodge since 1976 and was lodge master in 1987.

The father-of-two, who has five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, enjoys golf, fly and sea fishing, plays for Netherfield Bowling Club and is a keen fellwalker.

Provincial grand master Norman James Thompson told the gathering that Mr Brooks' masonic career and busy working life had seen him relocate many times and serve with the RAF at home and abroad in Cyprus and the desert of Libya; work for Rediffusion Cable and Television Rentals; run the Outgate Inn near Hawkshead during the 1980s; take a seasonal job with the Lake District National Park Authority; and become a training officer for Furmanite in Kendal.
