AN entire school recorded and launched a seven-track CD in less than two weeks.

Around 200 pupils and school staff at St Francis Primary School, Blackburn were involved in learning a set of vibrant, catchy and current sounding pops songs as part of a five-day project.

The school, working in collaboration with registered charity Pop UK, worked towards performing a community pop concert and recording a professional pop album.

The lyrics of each song are used to provide important learning for children's emotional wellbeing, explore key values and discover their purpose.

The school's headteacher Sharon Thomas said: "A week before the performance we had a multi-faith and British values week looking at who they were such as understanding of other faiths and rule of law and democracy.

"Pop UK came in and taught the children seven different songs which were all around moral core values like friendship, taking turns helping and respecting others.

"The lyrics were fantastic and the tunes were catchy.

"The children said they felt like pop stars and asked if we can continue to sing these songs in assembly in the future.

"One of the teachers said we have good days and great days and this day is one of those great days.

"I must say that Andy was really inspiring to the children.

"He had them eating out of the palm of his hand.

"There was one gentleman came to watch the performance who used to tour and play with Jimmy Hendrix.

"He said it's something special to see children sing from the heart."

Andy Silver, the founder and director of Pop UK, said: "We go into primary schools in the country and have 5 hubs in the UK.

"The purpose of the project is to involve the entire school in a music project that promotes key life values.

"Each song has a promotes a particular message such as reaching out to others and building confidence.

"The uniqueness was that it was a whole school project that included the pupils and the staff.

"One of the highlights was with the staff who were prepared to get together and recorded a song which went onto the album which the children didn't know about.

"We put the staff track on the album as a secret track and the children loved it.

"It seems ?? pop music yet offers lyrics that are valuable and life affirming.

"We even got the parents involved to make a big splash in the community."
