BLACKBURN Hawks coach Steve Duncombe is mindful of complacency as he takes his side to struggling Deeside Dragons in the NIHL Moralee Conference.

The Hawks make the journey to North Wales tomorrow (7pm) just three weeks on from a 16-4 home victory over the same opponents.

Indeed, Deeside have won just once all season and are likely to be involved in a relegation scrap.

Duncombe’s men have loftier ambitions and despite a chastening 7-0 defeat at the hands of runaway league leaders Telford Tigers in their last league game, the Hawks chief is targeting a play-off place this term.

And that means ensuring there are no slip ups at Deeside, something Duncombe has been working hard to impress on his squad this week.

He said: “It can be hard for the lads ahead of games like this, we beat them 16-4 the other week and their goals came after we switched off with the game won.

“But you don’t want to go there with the mindset that you just have to turn up to win.

“They will be desperate to get a win and they will work hard to try and get it.

“Hard work will beat talent every day of the week so we have to make sure we prepare properly and do our jobs properly.

“As I see it you have to play right every week regardless of who you are playing.

“We played Telford Tigers last week and lost 7-0 but I don’t think there was that much in the game, we need to work on a few things to get better and the perfect time to work on everything is in a game and that is what we want to do at Deeside.

“They have beaten Solihull and the good thing about this league is that it is competitive, all the sides can beat each other.

“We want a competitive league and ultimately we want to do well and make the play-offs and to do that we need to win games like this.”

Hawks head into the weekend sitting in third spot with five wins from seven games while the Dragons are second bottom having collected two points from a possible 14.

Hawks will travel with a near fully-fit squad with only Tom Parkinson missing.

He is sidelined with concussion and although he returned to training this week Duncombe admits tomorrow’s fixture will come too soon for him.

“We have said to him to start off with a couple of training sessions and just make sure he is okay before we put him back in for a game.

“He will have this weekend off and then hopefully he will be back for next week.”

Hawks are without a game tonight although there are four Moralee fixtures.
