A COUNCIL leader announced a potential change to the council's core strategy.
Ribble Valley Council's current local plan to build 5202 homes a year until 2028 is set to be reviewed and could be reduced to 3234 a year.
Council leader Ken Hind revealed news about the proposed changes to councillors at Tuesday's full council meeting.
Cllr Ken Hind, who is leader of Ribble Valley Council, said: ""The government have issued a consultation to reduce the number of houses we need to build.
"The government has identified there is a North and South divide in need for housing.
"The need is in London and nearby counties much more than in the North of England.
"The proposal is to reduce them from 280 a year to 172 a year.
"This could reduce our requirement to build 1,000 houses less by the end of the core strategy in 2028.
"The consultation means that government has recognised for planning services one size does not fit all."
The consultation will close on November 9.
