REPRESENTATIVES from the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and BAE Systems visited a Burnley school to talk to youngsters about a career in engineering.
Teachers from Unity College hope the visit sparked interest among year seven and eight female students to consider science, technology, engineering and maths.
A school spokeswoman said: "We found out that only 10 per cent of the engineers in the UK work force are female.
"The Unity College Science department wants to inspire all of our students to be the very best they can be, especially if they can have really great careers in science and engineering.
"We would love to get more of our female students interested careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics."
During the visit students got to explore the world of drones, the technology behind them and the multifarious uses that they are currently put to and their possible uses for the future.
They also looked at computing and control systems and finally got the chance to pitch their wits against a robot.
