AN elderly farmer has been able to continue his life-long love of farming after receiving help from a Ribble Valley-based care provider.

Robert Hird from Settle has worked on a family's farm since he was a young boy.

Farming goes back three generations in Robert’s family since 1920 but due to health conditions, Robert has needed care and support on a 24-hour basis, as well as supervision to maintain his safety and prevent accidents.

Promedica24 was recommended to Mr Hird by a friend and trustee for local charity Crossroads Care Ribble Valley.

Carers at Promedica24 have been supporting Robert for several weeks and the support has enabled him to continue getting out and about, under supervision, keeping a watchful eye on the running of the farm.

Gary Derbyshire, founder of the Promedica24 Ribble Valley branch, said: “This story highlights the variety of lifestyles that live-in care can support with. Allowing people to be independent, doing the things they love, is a core value.”
