A NEW building rises into the Burnley skyline in this photograph taken from the Lancashire Telegraph archives.
The year was 1969 and the outline of the new Great Universal Stores building was beginning to take shape just off the town centre.
The multi-storey building was being built in two parts - on Bridge Street with Parker Street running through the middle of it.
But at the time this photograph was taken, Parker Street had been closed to allow work to get underway joining the two halves together to form one vast structure for use by the catalogue giant.
Work on the project was due for completion in the summer of 1970.
