TODAY’s photograph taken from the Lancashire Telegraph archives captures the moment when an East Lancashire primary school was invaded by teddy bears.
The pupils of St Mary’s Primary responded magnificently to an appeal for knitted teddy bears to be donated to orphans from Romania in 1991.
In total, the youngsters at the school collected 100 of them.
Pictured is school head Eric Perry (left) and teacher Rita Gorman with PC Chris Driver part of a group of members of the emergency services going to help rebuild an orphanage in Romania.
Pupils Lindsey Knott and Lee Pickup, both five, are at the front of the picture with some of the bears.
