RESIDENTS from across East Lancashire have had their say on the new £10 note.

Several people said they preferred the old paper notes, but there was praise for Jane Austen being selected as the face of the notes.

Mas Ahmed, from near Cliffe Lane in Great Harwood, 55 said: "It's just a little bit redder.

"They stick together a bit like the £5 notes a little bit.

"I'm dreading when it comes to it and they bring out the new £20 note.

"I'd not really noticed Jane Austen was on it."

Matthew Talbot, 37, from St Huberts Road in Great Harwood, said: "I like the look of them, they're quite nice.

"I do prefer the paper ones but you cannot change things now.

"The plastic ones all just fold up and you can't keep them flat.

"It is a bit different having Jane Austen, I'd rather have her on it."

Hayley Chapman, 34, from Birch Hall in Darwen, said: "These new notes just pop out when you try and get them.

"I definitely prefer the old paper ones.

"I don't know why they're doing it and changing them all.

"It's nice that Jane Austen is on it, it's a bit different."

Jon Turner, 30, who lives near Witton Park in Blackburn, said: "It does look a bit fake, I'd rather they stay the same.

"It looks more like Monopoly money.

"I get the idea but I still prefer the old paper ones, the new ones are dead slippy to count.

"Whoever they put on it, it's just a face on a note to me."

Sophie Curtin, 40, from Hazel Grove in Knuzden, said: "I don't like it really like.

"They can be quite annoying, they stick together a bit and ride up.

"It's not something that bothers me that Jane Austen is on it.

"She's extremely famous and I don't see why she shouldn't be on it, so that's a good idea."

Edna Jones, 71, from Pendle Drive in Blackburn, said: "It looks nice.

"If it means the money is going to last longer and be more durable it's a good thing."
