CUTTING a swathe through Burnley town centre, this photograph from the Lancashire Telegraph archives shows work well underway on creating what was then dubbed the Manchester Road flyover.

Taken in June 1967, it shows that work on this section of the raised route through Burnley - now known as Centenary Way - was nearing completion. The main carriageway was in needs of its final surface and although the railings on one side of the road were in place, sections on the other side were still required.

The stretch in the photograph spanned the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
