MASKED raiders are being hunted by police after they targeted a town centre discount store.

Detectives investigating the burglary released images of the a gang, who targeted Home Bargains on Colne Road, Burnley causing thousands of pounds of damage.

The gang went on a rampage through the shop smashing up alarms, covering up fire alarms with masking tape, throwing water on CCTV cameras before cutting the phone lines.

Detectives said the thieves smashed their way through the store’s rear doors, before  breaking through a number of internal doors and accessing an office.

Once inside the gang were caught on CCTV trying to break into a safe and trying to smash through a wall and ceiling in an attempt to move it.

They also ransacked another room and stole a small amount of cash before continuing their spree of destruction by attempting to saw through a cash machine at the back of the store.

Store bosses are now offering a £5,000 reward for information which helps catch those responsible.

DC Tom Halliwell, of Burnley Police, said: “Thankfully the offenders weren’t successful in gaining access to the cash point or safe as they were disturbed before doing so.

“That said, they still managed to cause around £5,000 of damage which prevented employees from being able to go and earn an honest day’s living.

“If you recognise these men, saw anything in the lead up to or during the incident, I would urge you to get in touch.

“We think that the one of the offenders has injured himself whilst attempting to get into the safe, possibly hurting his back. If this could have been someone you know, please come forward.”

Officers have just released details of the incident which happened between 11pm on Friday, July 30 and 3.40am on Saturday, July 31.
