EAST Lancashire is gearing up for another fun summer Bank Holiday weekend with community events set to draw out thousands of revellers.

Among the attractions on offer is a family fun weekend at East Lancashire Railway, which will be held between Saturday and Monday.

The event is set to feature fun for the whole family, including donkey and miniature railway rides, across its sites in Bury, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall.

Friday will see the return of the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne with acts performing in the Hippodrome Theatre and The Muni.

Running over the Bank Holiday the festival will see award-winning blues artists from both sides of the Atlantic making their way to East Lancashire.

There is also more music on offer at Whalley Live 2017 at The Dog Inn, King Street, Whalley, between 9pm and 11pm on Friday, which will feature a range of cover bands from Blackburn.

Elsewhere, rural pursuits can enjoy the annual Chipping Agricultural Show, which celebrates farming and country life.

The agricultural event takes place on Saturday and starts at 9am in the Chipping Showground, Longridge Road, Chipping.

Other events include the two-day Burnley Canal Festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 5pm.

A series of music and dance acts will be performing at Sandygate Square, while revellers can also head along the canal towpath to Burnley Wharf and then on to Finsley Gate.

If you fancy something a little different, the Higham Scarecrow Festival takes place between Saturday and Monday in Higham village and its village hall.

The festival will feature an exhibition of scarecrows created by the villagers of Higham and displayed in their gardens.

Organiser Terry Butterfield said: “This year’s theme is scarecrows featuring anything to do with nursery rhymes and pantomimes. It’s great fun for the family and kids will love it.”
