A VARIETY of events are set to be held across East Lancashire this weekend.

The Royal Lancashire Show will return to its traditional site in Salesbury Hall, Ribchester, from Friday to Sunday.

First taking place in 1767, the event is one of Britain’s oldest agricultural shows, but it has only been held sporadically over the past 10 years due to funding issues and unfortunate luck with wet weather.

But the agricultural show will be on this year with gates opening between 8.30am and 5pm.

Elsewhere, more than 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the annual Clitheroe Food Festival on Saturday.

The food festival is an annual showcase of the work of local food and drink producers and starts from 9am in Clitheroe town centre.

Saturday will also see a 1940s theme day in Darwen Market Square, when the town holds its annual 1940s day.

The war-themed event, organised by Darwen Town Council, features activities such as a tea dance, war-time singalongs and re-enactments and people dressing up in period costumes.

The event takes place between 10am and 4pm.

While Saturday will also see Pendle celebrate 30 glorious years of The Pendle Way at the launch of this year’s Walking Festival.

The festival, now in its 14th year, runs from Saturday to Sunday, August 20 in an unspoilt part of the Pennines, with the event launching from the Lakeside Cafe in Ball Grove Park, Colne.

People can also seen enjoy afternoon tea at Scarlett Tea Rooms in Accrington Road ,Burnley, with the event starting at 2.30pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sunday will see the return of the popular Trawden Show. Dating back to 1925, the show is a celebration of agriculture and other rural activities in the area.

It will feature the usual range of animals from horses to livestock such as cattle, poultry and sheep, while there will be a number of fun activities for children.

The show kicks off at the Recreation Ground in Trawden near Colne at 10am.

There will also be a chance for people to enjoy a two-hour interactive dining experience with special guests & theatrical entertainment in Dearden Tea Rooms, in Deardengate, Haslingden on Sunday.

The tea party will take place between 4pm and 6pm.
