SCHOOL teachers performed a 'catastrophically-wonderful' ABBA medley for their leaving pupils.

Staff at St Wilfrid's Academy, Blackburn, created a farewell video, which went on to receive over 100,000 views on Facebook, for their outgoing Year 11 students.

More than 50 staff members sung a medley of iconic ABBA hits including Mama Mia, Take a Chance on Me and Waterloo.

The video was uploaded on YouTube and officially described as 'a catastrophically-wonderful compilation of classic ABBA tracks performed out of tune'.

One Youtuber said: "This is quite possibly the greatest video I have ever seen on YouTube."

The school's head of Key Stage Four, Mrs Crompton and the year manager for Year 11, Miss Smith, composed the lyrics that were used for the Abba video.

The Waterloo track went like this: "Year 11 - life has begun like never before. Year 11 - Wilfrid's will love you forever more. Year 11 - wherever you go Wilf's will be with you. Year 11 - the future looks brighter for me and you."

St Wilfrid's creative media marketing manager, Paul Green, said: "Mrs Compton came up with the idea at assembly.

"The staff thought it would just be mime but Mrs Compton was adamant staff had to sing the lines themselves."

This isn't the first farewell video that staff from the Blackburn academy have taken part in.

Last year they performed One Direction's hit 'History' and the video received close to 30,000 views.

Mr Green said he felt this year's video struck the right balance between 'cringe' and sentimentalism.

He said: "From looking at the comments on Facebook, a lot of students were bitter that their school had not done it. They felt their school should do something similar."

Mr Green was unsure whether next year's video will be able to top this year's blockbuster hit.

He said: "We joke about how we can better that next time. This year's one was three to four times better than last year's.

"Already we have started to think about what to do next year. There's no doubting the students will expect something."
