COUNTY council bosses are planning to address a number of highways issues with new £1.97million government roads bonus.

Funding has been awarded to Lancashire as part of the Department for Transport’s highway maintenance incentive scheme.

Road bosses at County Hall will use the bulk of their Transport Asset Management Plan (TAMP) on improving Westgate in Burnley, Main Street in Gisburn and three roads in Chorley, among others.

But around £196,000 from the incentive award will also be invested in inspecting four ‘post-tension’ bridges along the M65.

Emergency repairs to the A59, near Rose Cottage at Mellor, has been allocated £60,995.

And an additional £30,000 has been added to a £194,000 budget to help replace ageing street lighting columns countywide.

County engineers have already replaced 4,000 columns, some more than 40 years old.
