MORE than 2,000 Lancashire children will next week sing in a series of major concerts.

It is organised by Blackburn Cathedral’s Music Outreach’ project’s ‘Sing Together’ project.

The youngsters represent 97 schools in the Blackburn Church of England diocese who have been part of the scheme.

The concerts take place at King George’s Hall each night starting on Monday at 6pm and running until Monday, March 27.

Saturday’s concert will be at the earlier time of 5pm

Outreach organiser Gill Fourie said: “It’s great fun and a hugely uplifting project, inspiring children from all walks of life to enjoy music and performance.

“We have taught over 3,500 children in their schools and delivered nine hours of professional development to over 100 teachers in the cathedral.

“The Sing Together project lasts seven months and is focused both on teacher training and empowering and upskilling teachers to deliver singing in schools and on presenting a high quality musical opportunity for children who take part.”

Throughout September and October the Outreach teams visited each school and deliver a one hour teaching session to children.

Each concert staged at Blackburn involves some 16 schools with approximately 400 children involved.

Each school can chose up to 30 children to take part.
