A WORKSHOP on the restoration of a historic stable block is set to take place this week.

At the end of 2015 the Save our Stables campaign at Turton Tower won a £10,000 start-up grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to research and prepare a business plan.

It will produce a blueprint to refurbish the stables on the grounds of the main Grade I listed structure.

The workshop on Wednesday will be on business planning and residents are invited to find out what the stage is all about and offer up ideas for the future use of the stables.

A spokesman for the committee said: “These training sessions, as well as enabling people to become actively involved in the project, also play an important part in demonstrating to the grant bodies that the public are being encouraged to become involved. This will increase the probability of being awarded a grant.”

Although still structurally sound, the two-storey building has lain neglected and disused for many years.

Cllr Jean Rigby, leader of the campaign, said up to £1milllion may be needed to ensure the future of the block. The workshop is at 12.45pm at The Barlow.
