A FATHER-to-be who made off with a £1,000 haul after raiding Colne MOT Centre was caught after leaving finger prints.
Landscaper Steven Downie, 25, helped himself to tools, tyres, blank cheques and cash in the break-in.
The defendant, who went to Scotland and failed to turn up for court, had served two weeks - the equivalent of a four-week jail term - while on remand and was given a 28 day custodial sentence by Burnley magistrates.
Downie, then living in Colne, but now of Cumbernauld, Glasgow, admitted burglary and failing to surrender.
David Lawson, defending, said Downie, who had gone to Scotland to visit his sick mother, had been in custody since June 12.
He said the time spent on remand was sufficient punishment for the burglary.
