BUDDING DJs have been given somewhere to get in a spin after bosses at a new shop began special classes.

XL Vinyls, Blackburn Road, Great Harwood, has opened its doors for enthusiasts who want to have a go on the decks.

And a brand new recording studio is also available for wannabe pop stars to strut their stuff.

Youngsters from youth clubs and high schools across the area are lining up to use the state-of-the-art equipment.

Boss Mark Wilkinson, 25, opened the shop in March and since then has started to offer tuition for local youth clubs.

Mark, of Rishton, said: "We have had a great response.

"So far there have been kids from New Era coming down and having a great time practising on the equipment.

"It is unusual to find a place like ours where they can practice on professional decks.

"There are a lot of young people in the area who are really interested in dance music and this is a great way for them to get involved.

"It's a great way to get kids off the street and doing something worth while. Being a DJ can be a good career and this is a way to learn the skills."

The classes are aimed at people aged between 11 and 25 and use record turntables, CD decks and mixing equipment.

The classes have been paid for through Lancashire County Council funding.

The New Era youth group, based in Paradise Street, Accrington, has taken up the offer and eight youngsters are visiting each week to hone their skills.

The group, who have called themselves "Juvinilia", are practising for a dance night at New Era on August 3 and are also hoping to record a CD of their work.

MC Rebel, also known as Michael Smith, 24, of Rishton, leads the tuition sessions at XL Vinyls.

He teaches "bouncy house" and hardcore dance tech-niques to the youngsters.

He said: "It's very energetic music and something that the kids are really enjoying learning.

"I teach the basics of beat matching, scratching and turntable controls. Most pick it up quickly and it's great fun."

Laureen Smith, from New Era, said: "The kids really enjoy it and they are learning properly.

"The tuition is really good and they are not just messing around. It's really worthwhile.

"They are also getting a performance qualification for all of the work that they are doing."
