He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 100 hours’ unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was ordered to pay £150 compensation to Miss Turowska, £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, said the couple had been together for six years. On the day of the incident she had been to see a friend.

“He was jealous and while she was sitting on the sofa he punched her in the face,” said Miss Crane.

“He then bit her on the arm and kicked her repeatedly to the lower body.

“He went into the kitchen and she took the opportunity to leave the house and go to the police station.”

Cathryn Fell, defending, said her client accepted there had been an argument because she had gone out without him.

“She was being abusive and he accepts the red mist descended,” said Miss Fell. “He is not alcohol dependent in any way but accepts he had drunk to excess on this day.”
