THE East Lancashire coroner has opened the inquest into the death of a 15-year-old girl who died after eating a takeaway.

Senior coroner Michael Singleton heard Megan Lee died from a brain injury caused by a heart attack triggered by an anaphylactic shock.

Megan, of Hargreaves Road, Oswaldtwistle died on New Year’s Day, two days after being admitted to hospital after eating food from the Royal Spice Indian takeaway in the town’s Union Road.

Mr Singleton told the hearing at Blackburn Enterprise Centre the post mortem examination on January 4 was unascertained pending histology, toxicology and immunology investigations.

He said: "The likely cause of death is brain injury due to a cardiac arrest due to an anaphylactic shock.

"I understand this may well relate to the purchase of a take away meal.

"Two men have been arrested with gross negligence and involuntary manslaughter.

"I will adjourn this inquest until March 16 for a further mention."

Megan’s funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday) at 12.30pm at Immanuel Church in New Lane Oswaldtwistle.

The Accrington St Christopher’s CE High School pupil’s friends have been given the afternoon off school to attend.
