AMBITIOUS plans for a £13million lakeland holiday village on the outskirts of Blackburn are facing opposition from neighbours.
More than 180 people have put their names to a protest petition to fight proposals for a 112-acre leisure complex on land off Brokenstones Road, Feniscowles.
Fifty jobs would be created under the scheme, put forward by Manchester-based Castleland Ltd, including 120 log cabins to be built alongside five leisure lakes, wildlife havens, a restaurant and gym.
But neighbours - who have complained previously about contaminated waste dumped on the Feniscowles land - say they have had enough. They are angry that little appears to have been done to remove the waste which has accumulated on the site - despite enforcement notices issued by the borough council.
Residents say increased traffic will pose road safety difficulties in an area with few adopted pavements.
Land at Lower Whitclough Farm will be home to the prospective holiday village. Castleland acquired the site in 2006 and has signalled its desire to tackle the dumping problem.
