A 21-year-old man has been charged with a "car-jacking" robbery after a man on his way to the mosque was allegedly dragged from his vehicle.

Naveed Hussain Shah is also charged with a handbag robbery later the same day last Friday and unlawful imprisonment and assault of a 17-year-old boy on Sunday.

Shah, 21, of Pine Street, Blackburn, was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court when he appeared at Blackburn.

Charged with him on the false imprisonment and assault causing actual bodily harm charges were two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old girl.

The charges of unlawful imprisonment relate to allegations that the boy was forced to go to a house in Pine Street late on Saturday night where he was allegedly repeatedly punched and kicked and hit with a table leg.

He was allegedly detained in the house for about two hours. A second man, Arif Chowdhary, 19, of Barlow Moor Road, Manchester, also faces the robbery charges. He and Shah are alleged to have taken a car belonging to Mohammed Warrchhia as he set off to go to the mosque on Friday at about 4.20 am.

They are also charged with robbing Lyn Walmsley of her handbag as she walked to work at about 7am the same day. Both men were sent in custody to Preston Crown Court.
