BLACKBURN MP Jack Straw could be set for a new job as Prime Minister Tony Blair steps down from office.

Gordon Brown is to be officially appointed as Mr Blair's successor when he resigns as PM later today. Mr Blair is also expected to resign as a MP.

Mr Straw, currently Leader of the House of Commons, is tipped by some political commentators for a reward as he was Mr Brown's campaign manager.

And as a former Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary, the only two great offices of state Mr Straw has not occupied are that of Chancellor of the Exchequer and Prime Minister.
