A TEENAGER responsible for a Darwen axe attack which left the victim needing 60 stitches has been sentenced to three years in detention.
Preston Crown Court heard 18-year-old Dane Saezs carried out the attack after taking a large amount of cannabis.
Saez, from Darwen, but living at a bail address in Liverpool, admitted wounding with intent.
Mark Smith, prosecuting, said the axe attack took place on February 11 this year near Woodvale flats.
There was an argument inside the flats and Saez turned up carrying an axe.
Victim Darren Peach was not really being involved but Saez took offence against him and attacked him.
Mr Peach was struck twice with the axe on his shoulder and torso suffering deep wounds.
Miss Clare Thomas, defending, said Saez voluntarily handed himself in when police were looking for him.
The offence was out of character but the cannabis had impacted on his actions, she said.
Recorder Andrew Nuttall said: "Mr Peach did nothing to deserve that attack."
