A LORRY driver has been trying to brighten people’s day by carrying out random acts of kindness.

Chris Short, 25, has set up a social media page featuring videos of him doing kind-hearted gestures for strangers in the street.

While he said he has always had the ability to make people smile, he has been motivated to carry out the actions by his personal life as he recently split up from his partner of four years.

Mr Short, who lives in Great Harwood and grew up in Blackburn, said: “It just spurred me on to go and do it. I just wanted to spread some love.

“It’s hard to describe the feeling you get, it’s nerve wracking doing it. But then people are really taken aback by it, they love it.”

He has set up a Facebook page called FatLadFM to showcase videos of him doing his acts of kindness and aims to share one video a week.

Some of his gestures include buying flowers for people in the street, paying for the McDonald’s order of a man behind him and buying chocolates from Thorntons to give to staff behind the counter.

Originally Mr Short was worried about people reactions to his gestures but he has been pleased with the reactions he has received.

He said his aim in life is to try and make people smile in an age of ‘doom and gloom’.

Mr Short said: “The whole point is just trying to get the ball rolling.

“It doesn’t cost a lot, it’s not about the money, it’s just doing that little gesture.

“I’ve had some hard times myself, I’ve been struggling and had to find a friends sofa to sleep on.

“I know how I would have felt just having someone do something like this to help me and how it would make me feel.”
