BLACKBURN with Darwen Citizens Advice Bureau is to return to the town centre with a new advice surgery.

The CAB was forced to scale down its service based at Blackburn Library after losing a contract with the borough council earlier this year.

Since then it has been running a reduced service offering advice over the telephone and at various locations across the town by appointment only.

But it now has a permanent home at Blackburn MP Kate Hollern’s constituency office in Richmond Terrace and is offering a drop-in service again.

The free debt advice surgery will be open every Monday between 10am and 1pm with no appointment necessary.

Tracy Davies, debt adviser at the organisation, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue to work with the partnership agencies and to be able to offer debt surgeries.

“This would not have been possible without the partnership working which we have developed during the bureau’s very difficult time.”

Mrs Hollern said: “Many of my constituents face financial struggles and the service provided by CAB will help to ensure that more are able to deal with ongoing difficulties.”

Steve Hughes, chair of the Citizens Advice said: “We are so pleased that the Blackburn with Darwen Citizens Advice is progressing, rebuilding and look forward to the future.”

Last year the service saw 4,960 clients and dealt with 7,383 problems.

Debt advice is also available at the foodbank in Oakenhurst Road, Blackburn, every Wednesday between 11am and 2pm and at the Wesley Hall Church in Feilden Street every other Friday from noon until 3pm.
