A 51-YEAR-OLD man who made an annual pilgrimage to Oswaldtwistle on the birthday of his dead son was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Blackburn magistrates heard police responded to a report of a man being aggressive towards an 11-year-old boy outside Oswaldtwistle School in Union Road.

The ambulance had already been despatched because of a report of a man falling off a bench in a drunken state.

Mark Anthony Leek, of Heys Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Union Road. He was fined £80 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Leek said it would have been his dead son’s birthday and he went to Oswaldtwistle every year on that day to have a drink. “I had booked and paid for a taxi to take me home,” he said.
