A FAMILY-run business is looking for someone who loves gin – so they can help make some of the best in the world.

Burnley-based Batch Brew, which launched in 2014, is set to increase its 200 bottles per week output to more than a 1,000 by the end of the year.

And now the micro gin distillery is looking for a committed apprentice distiller to help with the increased production.

The apprentice would gain skills in proofing, distillation, blending, cleaning tanks, and helping to build stills.

The artisan gin maker is stocked in high-end supermarkets such as Booths and last year won a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Phil Whitwell, director, said he wants an apprentice who is enthusiastic about gin and wants to help develop the business. He said: “We are a small, but very ambitious business, which loves our distilling craft.

“We are looking for a production apprentice who would learn all aspects of distilling and could go on to focus on a particular area of distilling that they most enjoy.

“Our apprentice would be closely nurtured in our distilling craft and the role would offer opportunities to travel throughout Europe and the USA when promoting our product. We are looking to resell our still design and make stills for other micro-distilleries.

“The apprentice would be part of our close-knit family business with a unique opportunity to learn a distinct craft and be part of a growing scene.

“With Christmas orders starting to come in online we are looking to recruit someone as soon as possible.”

The distillery was given a grant of £10,196 last year from the Lancashire Business Growth Fund.

Cllr Sue Graham, Burnley Council regeneration boss, visited Batch Brew to see its progress. She said: “It is wonderful to see the process, and to hear about the growth of Batch Brew, and their commitment to growing here in Burnley.”

“They are another business who has praised the proactive business support the council offers.

“Working at Batch Brew would be a unique opportunity to learn about distilling and a great apprentice opportunity to work in the distilling industry.”
