RESIDENTS in Pendle are being urged to dig out their wellies for a new family dog-walking event which will raise funds for two charities.

Paws in the Park is set to take place in Barrowford Park in October where around 200 cuddly canines and their owners will be making their way around a 2.5-mile circular route.

The event has been organised by Pendleside Hospice along with Pendle Dogs In Need to raise awareness of both charities.

Sammi Bracewell, fundraiser for the hospice, said she was delighted to be launching the event for the first time.

She said: “We are extremely excited to launch Paws in the Park, which is our first ever dog walking event.

“A huge thank you to the event sponsor Oakmount Veterinary Centre and also everyone at Pendle Dogs In Need for their support and making this event possible.”

A professional dog display team called ‘Tricks 4 Treats’ will also be performing before and after the walk and there will be an opportunity to let your four-legged friend have a go.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said he is a big supporter of both charities.

He said: “I think this is a fantastic idea to get people one of Pendle’s greatest parks and encouraging responsible dog ownership while raising money for two fantastic causes which I am a huge supporter of.”

The event, on Sunday, October 9, will be open to all but participating dogs will need to be registered and accompanied by an owner over the age of 18.

On the day participants can check-in from 10am in the hospice marquee by the playground and the fully marshalled walk will begin at 11am.

It should take around one to one-and-a-half hours to complete and all registered doggies will receive a doggy bandana, earned goody bag and certificate.

Before and after the walk, visitors will be able to purchase refreshments, and use various stalls and take part in some activities.

The £5 registration fee will be equally split between Pendleside Hospice and Pendle Dogs In Need.

To secure your dogs place register at www.pendleside.org.uk or call the fundraising team on 01282 440120.
