A YOUNG rocker proved you’re never too young for The Buzzcocks when he upstaged an East Lancashire band with his moves at their recent gig.

Nineteen-month-old Finley Ashton’s solo groove to Riflemen of War’s version of ‘Ever Fallen In Love’ at MidFest in Limefield Park, Middleton, has gained more than 1.7million views online so far.

The band members all hail from Bacup and Rawtenstall and lead singer Keith Roscoe, the Lancashire League’s record wicket taker, said that Finley put on a ‘tremendous’ show.

He said: “At around 1.30pm, a star was born.

“This lad upstaged us 100 times over; what an absolute legend.

“We first noticed him a couple of songs before his dance and he was bopping away in the pram to ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’ by The Clash.

“He’s obviously got a great taste in music because he wasn’t dancing to anyone else. You can never start them too early.

“I would say he’s our youngest fan ever, we don’t tend to get kids listening to our music and we don’t appear at festivals too often, usually pubs.

“It’s amazing how this stuff gets round on the internet so well done buddy.”

Riflemen of War will be presenting Finley with a t-shirt, something they only usually give away in competitions, but the group felt this was an exceptional circumstance.

Finley’s dad Jon Ashton from Rochdale said: “I can’t believe how big this has got.

“I just came along to meet my friend John Barlow who actually shot the video and I let Finley off his bike because he was getting a bit agitated, but he just ran straight to the front and there was no getting him back.

“The band have kindly said he can have a t-shirt which they only do for competitions usually.

“It’s definitely something for me to show at his 18th.”

The band will play at The Talbot in Burnley tonight before heading to East Lancashire Cricket Club in Blackburn on Friday, August 12.
