MEET Bentley, a pup with 'bent' legs who has won the hearts of Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary.

The Staffie-cross is around six-seven months old and was brought in to the Edenfield sanctuary with his disability.

The vets are not sure if he was born was the deformity or if poor diet and a lack of understanding about his care has contributed to his crooked legs.

Bentley has been in splints as, because he is so young, he still had the soft cartilage in his legs rather than bone, so his legs can be manipulated.

Stuart Murray, operations manager at Bleakholt, said: “We are monitoring Bentley closely but he has already won over the staff at Bleakholt and has already found people who will take him home and care for him.

“They took in another of our dogs who still has intensive treatment for wonky legs so they know how to look after dogs like Bentley.

“Obviously Bentley will be vulnerable to accidents and we aren’t sure if his condition with deteriorate but he is a happy pup who is getting livelier and doesn't let his disability affect him.”

Luckily, Bentley has found a home but Bleakholt cares for plenty more dogs, cats and small animals which need to be rehomed, while goats, horses, donkeys and pigs live out their lives there. For more information go to www.bleakholt.org.
