The flight crew said they had been alerted by other passengers to Beard’s anti-social behaviour after he became drunk and disorderly.

After police removed him from the plane and arrested him on suspicion of being drunk on board an aircraft, several miniature spirit bottles were found around his seat.

It took flight crew several attempts to pacify Beard before the landing, Manchester Magistrates Court heard.

A police report said passengers began clapping and cheering as he was taken from the flight.

Beard was fined £900 by magistrates and ordered to pay a £90 victim surcharge and £85 towards prosecution costs after pleading guilty to bring drunk in an aircraft on Tuesday, July 26.

Cllr Terry Hill, deputy leader of Ribble Valley Council, said he was appalled with the holidaymakers behaviour.

He said: “I am absolutely appalled by this story, especially as I have had personal experience of sitting next to someone who had drunk far too much on a plane.

“You are in quite close proximity on a plane so it is not a very pleasant thing to sit next to. It made me feel very uncomfortable and I would not wish it upon anyone.

“I hope he does not go doing this again and I hope it steers other people away from doing it as well.”

Cllr Stuart Hirst, leader of Ribble Valley Council, also said that Beard should be ashamed of his ‘yobbish’ behaviour.

He said: “I think this is shocking, yobbish behaviour from this man and it’s extremely regrettable.

“I hope he is ashamed of himself, it is not nice to sit next to someone on a plane who is behaving like that.”
