A MAN has been arrested for allegedly headbutting a police officer in Colne.

The man is also accused of racially abusing a second officer during the incident which happened in North Street.

Police had been called to a domestic disturbance involving a man and a woman at noon on Tuesday.

As well as the alleged incidents involving the officers, the 21-year-old man is said to have been threatening the occupants of a house.

Whilst he was being arrested a woman is said to have become aggressive towards officers and refused to leave.

A video appeared online which shows the woman being pushed by an officer and she fell to the ground.

Senior officers are now reviewing the incident and looking at the officer's conduct.

A police spokesman said: "At shortly after noon on June 28 officers were called to North Street, Colne to deal with a domestic disturbance involving a young woman and her partner. The call was made by the woman’s mother.

"Officers attended the scene and found a man who was threatening officers and the other occupants of the house.

"During the incident one officer was head-butted and the other was racially abused.

"A 21-year-old man from Colne was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

"During the arrest the man’s partner became aggressive and abusive to officers. She was asked to leave but refused. The woman was pushed during the incident for the personal safety of the officers.

"The man who was arrested remains in police custody.

"The incident is being reviewed by supervision to establish whether any further action will be taken. We will let you know of any further developments."
