FAMILIES turned out in their hundreds to enjoy an action-packed day at the annual Colne Gala.

Hundreds of excited youngsters and parents lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the weird and wonderful floats that poured into the town.

Residents were dazzled by stunt bikers Xtreme Trials Stunt Team which was followed by a tug-of-war competition.

Rossendale’s Water Brass Band also made an appearance and played throughout the day.

Holt House was packed with people who took part in the fun fair and visited the food and goods stalls.

Colne firefighters were on hand to present a fire demonstration, which lead into a performance by Colne-based pop rock band, The Switch.

Colne FC was awarded the Best Float award by procession judge, Andrew Stephenson, Pendle’s MP. who said: “The day on a whole was perfect and there was a massive turnout.

“It was great to see lots of new comers this year to the procession with lots of different and floats.

“Colne FC had lots of youngsters with them and I really enjoyed their float, which was why I gave them the award.

“I would like to thank all the committee organisers and everyone involved who made this a fabulous event.”

Cllr Nathan McCollum, who represents Vivary Bridge, said: “There was so many people there, especially at the procession with people lined up everywhere.

“We had nice weather off which helped as well.

“The gala has been part of Colne’s heritage for so long it’s an important tradition to keep going.

“It brings the town and surrounding areas together and it’s always been one of the highlights of the calendar.”

The finals of the Britain’s Got Talent competition took place on the day and a second show from the Extreme Stunt team finished off the day.

Cllr Joe Cooney, who also represents Vivary Bridge, said; “It was a superb everything went very well.

“There were so many people in Holt House I couldn’t believe it, the gala is definitely getting bigger and better every year.

“Last year’s gala was good, but this one definitely tops it.”
