FOOTBALL fans across East Lancashire came out in their thousands to watch the Euro 2016 tie between England and Wales.

Many visited their local pubs to watch the action, while work colleagues and students huddled round computer screens to watch the big game.

England substitute Daniel Sturridge scored the late winner to send Three Lions fans into raptures, as England came from behind to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory.

Fans watching at the Postal Order pub, Blackburn, reported that there were tremendous scenes when the final blow was struck.

Kes Walsh, from Blackburn, said: “I have never heard a cheer like that in here before when the second goal went in.

“I had to take my hearing aid out.”

His friend David Horsfield added: “It was a lovely atmosphere, I was happy with the result in the end.”

England fan Lee Usborne said: “I came down here to watch it because of the big screens.

“If England keep going through games I’ll keep going here.”

Not everyone had the luxury of watching the game in a pub, however, and employees at Bowker BMW, Blackburn, had to watch the action in the office reception.

The car sale business, which saw an English v Welsh workplace rivalry, believes watching the clash in the office epitomised the benefits of tournament football.

Barrowford’s Michael Duckett said: “The group stages mean football every day, I love that.”

Welshmen Ian Evans added: “Like any car sales environment, we try to blend a professional approach with friendly banter.”
