FREE TOKENS are to be given out for residents to use a new laundrette outside a Nisa store in Haslingden.

This comes as Rossendale Council begin inspecting the machines which sit outside the shop in Deardengate, yards from the entrance.

Manager of the store, Liaqat Ali, had the £40,000 kit installed on Wednesday evening, which has received mixed reviews.

Francois de Freitas, head of marketing for Photo-Me, the parent company of the laundrette manufacturer KIS Wash Solutions, said: "We are trying to provide a useful and important service to the community.

"We want to give tokens out to people for a limited time so they can try out the washing machines for free."

A Rossendale council spokesman said: "The council’s Planning Enforcement section has been made aware of the outdoor laundrette in Haslingden, and is currently investigating the matter."
