A WOMAN who had split up with her boyfriend went around to his house armed with two kitchen knives and threatened to kill him and his children.

Preston Crown Court heard Kirsty Leanne McNulty, of London Terrace, Darwen, had taken a cocktail of vodka, anti-depressants and anti-psychotic medication before going around to Thomas Davies’s house and making the threats.

The prosecution said Mr Davies had gone around to McNulty’s house on March 13 to return some of her belongings.

The couple, who had been together for 18 months, exchanged abuse and obscenities before Mr Davies returned to his home in Ivinson Road, Darwen.

Prosecuting, Jeremy Grout-Smith said: “The conversation resumed by text message and the pair again traded insults with each other.

“The defendant then reacted rather badly and she started to threaten Mr Davies via text message saying that he was ‘so dead it was unreal’, ‘I’m going to kill you’, ‘Im coming after you’ and ‘stabby, stabby, stabby’.”

McNulty, 29, also sent a Facebook message to Mr Davies’s ex-partner threatening their children, the court heard.

She then went around to Mr Davies’s home with the knives and made a stabbing gesture, before attempted to kick the front door down.

When that failed she again made threats towards Mr Davies’s children and walked off in the direction of the house they were staying at with their mother.

Mr Grout-Smith said: “This time she was detained by police in possession of the two knives.

“She was then arrested for criminal damage and whilst under caution she told the police ‘I still want to kill him’.

“She referred to him in an obscene way when she was asked to sign the officer’s notebook in respect of the comments she had made already. She admitted when interviewed she wanted to kill both him and herself.”

In a personal statement to the court Mr Davies said he couldn’t believe what he was seeing when McNulty had come around to his house, made the threats and started kicking his front door.

He said it wasn’t the woman he had first met and fallen in love with. He said he had felt awful since the incident and began to physically shake when he thought about it. He accused his ex-partner of being vindictive and questioned if she would comply with any restraining order imposed.

He wrote: “I am not sure if she meant it or not on the day she made threats to me and my children.

“Even if she didn’t mean it and it was said in anger, what kind of person threatens children?”

Defending, James Heyworth said his client had been diagnosed with a personality disorder and was known to the mental health team in Darwen.

He said: “The factors of the offence and her behaviour that night were born out of her mixing vodka with her anti-depressants and anti-psychotic medication. It resulted in this bizarre and frightening incident.

“She’s showed genuine remorse in a letter she has written to the court and by her engagement with the mental health team in Styal Prison.”

McNulty, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, making treats to kill and two counts of possessing a bladed article. She was given a total of 12 months' jail imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, told to complete a 30-day activity requirement and adhere to a 12 month restraining order banning her from contacting Mr Davies directly or indirectly or going within 100 metres of his house.

Judge Hussain said: “The mental health issues don’t impact in relation to this sentence because you accept you overdosed on medication and mixed it with vodka."

“That paid a crucial part in your behaviour.”
