WANDERERS’ efforts to trim their wage bill are expected to continue right up to today’s loan deadline.

Conor Wilkinson joined Portsmouth on loan for the rest of the season yesterday but further exits are planned, with striker Stephen Dobbie tipped to be the next out of the Macron door.

Millwall have been linked with the 33-year-old Scot, who has scored three goals for Wanderers this season but just two of his 22 appearances so far have been from the start.

Big earners such as Mark Davies, Jay Spearing, Dean Moxey and Darren Pratley have been made available for loan but as yet there have been no takers.

Wilkinson joined play-off chasing Pompey after a solid spell at Newport County.

The former Millwall man scored just once for the South Wales club in 10 starts but helped them climb clear of the League Two relegation zone.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international spent the first half of this season on loan at Barnsley and will be eligible for the play-offs if Pompey make the top six.

The Football League has confirmed the emergency loan window closes at 5pm for the final time and will not be in operation next season.
