I’M sure Paul Lambert was given assurances when he took charge of the club that he was going to get money in the summer. Otherwise why would he have come here?

And I think this week has shown that he does need to spend. Some lads got their chance at Ipswich on Tuesday and just didn’t take it. He needs more players.

He must be working on the assumption he’s going to be allowed to spend. Whether he knows how much yet, I’m not so sure.

But he does need to know soon because he’ll have got his eye on players he wants to sign.

He’ll know where he needs to strengthen and he’ll have A players, B players and C players on his shopping list.

And, as I said, he does need to spend.

It’s always been a hard division to get out of but nowadays I think it’s even harder because teams are really beginning to splash the cash.

Blackburn can’t afford to go mad, gamble, and go for broke in an effort to get back into the Premiership. They’ve got to go about it in the right way.

But you only need to take one look at the table to see how tight it’s getting at the top. Burnley look like they’re running away with it but the rest are quite close.

And, with up to three big clubs set to come down, it could well get even tighter next season.

For now, though, Blackburn have still got a bit of work to do this season.

We all thought they’d turned the corner but these last two defeats have been a knock back.

They seem to play well and get results in fits and starts. They need to become more consistent.

Hopefully they can get back to winning ways at Brentford tomorrow.

Brentford are not playing well so it’s up to Blackburn to go down there and win the game.

The last thing we want is to go into the international break on the back of three defeats. We’ve all felt down in the dumps enough as it is this week.
