IN the corridor leading into the press room at Burnley’s training ground hangs a framed photograph of Burnley’s last promotion squad.

Michael Keane studies it on the way to yesterday's pre-match interviews, looking at Clarets past and present.

There are familiar faces, and they are keen to have something to celebrate again come May with a return ticket to the Premier League.

With 10 games to go, Burnley are well placed thanks to a five-game winning run that has stretched their lead at the top of the Championship to four points.

While Sean Dyche’s side came back from 2-1 down at Fulham to win 3-2 and stay on track on Tuesday, second placed Middlesbrough slipped up at Rotherham, where they were beaten 1-0. With Hull City in FA Cup action, Burnley took full advantage.

Taking a leaf out of the manager’s book, Keane, who joined the Clarets in their top flight season - making his loan move from Manchester United permanent in January 2015, can only concentrate on themselves.

He admits that, at the business end of the season with just 10 games to go, they look for rivals’ results.

Tuesday’s were favourable, with Burnley the only top 10 team to win.

But Keane stresses the key to any success this season will be keeping the focus in-house.

“You look at results elsewhere and you’re really happy when things go your way,” he said.

“It was a good night for the football club and hopefully there’ll be a few more.

“But I’m sure there will be some more swings this season so you can’t get too carried away.

"We’ve just got to take one game at a time and do the best you can."

Wanting to be a part of this year's celebration pictures, snapped on another photograph to add to the Gawthorpe collection, and dine at English football’s top table next season is a big motivation for the defender and his team-mates to stay on the front foot and in first place.

“Once you’ve been in the Premier League, while it’s devastating to be relegated the motivation to come straight back up was huge from all the players, and the gaffer’s done really well to keep most of the players from last year,” said the centre half.

“I felt we had a really strong squad coming into the season and then with a few good additions we’re doing really well and hopefully we can see it through.

“Of our starting XI recently I think eight have done it before. I’ve not myself, but I think that’s quite a high number and going into the last 10 games I think that might be a big help.

“The experience that they’ve done it before is something they can learn from.”

And Keane is confident they have the mental toughness to go the distance.

“We’ve got a great squad of people here as well as footballers. We’re all strong mentally, the gaffer’s been here and done it before,” he said.

“We had our blip in December, it was a bit of a sticky patch for us, whereas maybe Hull and Middlesbrough are having it recently.

“Maybe they’ll get back into some good form. But hopefully we won’t have another dip and we can just keep going. We’re at the top now so we just need to keep winning games and see it through because it’s going to be really close to the end of the season I think.”

We’ve been on a brilliant run - credit to all the lads and the staff here we’ve not let ourselves go.

“We keep working really hard in training and hopefully we can keep it going until the end of the season."
