YOUNG chefs are having a flippin good time today – celebrating Pancake Day.

Pupils at St Peter and Paul RC Primary School have been busy practicing making Shrove Tuesday traditional treats in time for the big day.

The youngsters have not only been making their own pancakes – but they've also been flipping them up in the air for fun.

Getting some early practice were five-year-olds Nishi Patel and classmate Igor Wojcieszak.

And say teachers, the children are a dab hand at cooking up the delicious treats.

Trish Grogan, head of the school in Bolton, said: "One year a pancake got stuck on the roof — but that was because an adult was flipping over the pancake in the pan. All the children have a go at making the pancakes and get to flip them over — and eat them. The younger children need some help but they also join and they all really enjoy it. They all have a fantastic time."

As well as cooking up the treats, children also learned about the significance of Pancake Day in assembly, which tomorrow will be followed up by a special Ash Wednesday Service

And this year youngsters at the school enjoyed double the treats, as the school has been celebrating Chinese New Year.

Mrs Grogan said: "We have had noodles and pancakes this year."

She added the children enjoy learning about different cultures and festivals.

Mrs Grogan said: "Our children learn and live harmoniously together because they learn from an early age about different cultures and festivals."
