A MAJOR programme prompted by the Boxing Day floods should see more than £3million heading towards East Lancashire - where some of the most significant damage was caused.
Up to £1million has been earmarked to repair Dinckley footbridge, which suffered 'severe structural deformation' as it was battered by the rising River Ribble.
An estimate has yet to be placed on how much it will cost to remove 1,000 tonnes of soil which careered down the the side of Lee Quarry at Bacup during the freak weather conditions.
And at least £616,000 is wanted to repair a crack in the A646 Burnley Road at Cliviger, where a further landslide has caused a crack in the main carriageway. Road engineers have deemed this a 'high priority' as it is the main route between Burnley and Todmorden.
The Lancashire Telegraph has previously reported on similar damage to Dunsop Road at Whitewell, part of the Duchy of Lancaster estate, which will cost £370,000 to put right.
The Department for Transport has allocated £5million for the infrastructure work, which will be incorporated into Lancashire County Council's highways programme for the year.
Mike Kirby, the county council's director of corporate commissioning, said in a report: "The full cost to repair key local transport infrastructure will not be known until the full assessment of the damage has been completed.
"In the event that the total estimated cost is in excess of £5 million a request will be made to the DfT for additional funding to be considered."
More than 60 schemes have been identified across East Lancashire, ranging from a collapsed retaining wall at Victoria Way and Fallbarn Road in Rawtenstall, costing £246,000, and a repairs around Old Sol's footbridge in Whalley, priced at £10,000.
Cllr Alison Brown, who covers Langho ward on Ribble Valley Council, which includes Dinckley, said: "It is a very historic bridge which is well-used by ramblers and walkers and a crucial link in our walking network.
"It is an awful lot of money, and it's not on anyone's route to work or school, but tourism is vital to the Ribble Valley."
Quarry rider Dave Sutcliffe, who confirmed the rest of the routes at the venue and nearby Cragg Quarry were passable, said on social media: "Floods and landslide have washed away the trail on the final downhill at Lee Quarry."
