AN EAST Lancashire mother has thanked staff at the Royal Blackburn Hospital Renal Unit for 'saving' her daughter's life.

Ann Metcalfe has spent countless nights at hospital after her daughter, Keeley Fenn, 25, was born with a kidney problem.

Keeley, mother-of-two has suffered from kidney stones and severe pain since she was born.

Although her second kidney is able to function well, Keeley suffers from re-occurring infections and has spent eight Christmases in hospital.

The build-up of hundreds of kidney stones meant Keeley has had to have numerous scans and tests to try and prevent the tube blockage that leads to her kidney.

She has been put on various medication and anti-biotics but due to her penicillin allergy, her body has become more immune to the medication and this has caused more infections.

Ann, of Vine Street in Brierfield, said: "She was so close to die and we would have lost her if it wasn't for the renal unit staff at Ward C22.

"I can honestly say that they have given her, her confidence back and that boost which will allow her to go and do all the things she wanted to do but was stopped from doing because of her failing kidney.

"They saved her life and worked so hard and now we need to thank them for all their efforts."

Ann and her partner Errol Shaw are organising a fundraising event in a bid to raise £1,000 for the staff at the renal unit to benefit the patients.

They will host a benefit concert as a way of saying thank you to all those that helped Keeley to recover.

It well be held at Paradise Working Men’s Club, on Martin Street in Burnley and will include a free supper and guests Tim Littlechild and Helen Wakefield from 2BR.

Ann said: "I would like to thank the club for providing the space and letting us decorate it free of charge, the 2BR artists who gave up their time free of charge and Bombay Lounge in Barrowford who are supplying 150 suppers for free to those who attend."

Keeley will be present at the event.

The concert will be on February 10 at 7pm and the first act is set to perform at 8pm.

Tickets cost £2 for adults and children and everyone is welcome.

There will be raffles and auctions on the night and all proceeds will go to the ward at Blackburn Hospital.
