REPORTS in Germany claim that Wanderers missed out on Latvian striker Artjoms Rudnevs at the end of the transfer window.

The Hamburg SV star has been looking to quit the Bundesliga after falling out of favour and was also subject to interest from Belgian side Standard Liege and Greek outfit PAOK Salonika.

Wanderers failed to reach an agreement with the 27-year-old, who boasted an excellent scoring record with Lech Poznan in Poland prior to his arrival in Germany, where he has struggled to command a regular first team place.

Neil Lennon had monitored Rudnevs during his time at Celtic and could well keep tabs on him in the future as his contract at Hamburg expires at the end of this season.

Wanderers are on the lookout for striking reinforcements and also made a play for Celtic front man Anthony Stokes last week but were turned down by the Glasgow club.
