NEIL Lennon has drawn up a shortlist of strikers to target when the loan window opens tomorrow.

While the Wanderers boss is not expecting to bring anyone in before the weekend’s home clash with Wolves, he accepts bolstering his attack is a matter of importance.

The Whites have scored just one competitive goal in six games in league and cup this season.

Lennon saw a loan offer for Celtic’s Anthony Stokes rejected on transfer deadline day but cannot now sign his former Parkhead charge until the window reopens January.

He now has to explore other options but might find that task slightly easier now that the Premier League clubs have submitted their 25-man squads, leaving a few players displaced.

“We’ll look to add a striker to the squad, if we can. It’s something I want to look at when the window opens Thursday,” he told The Bolton News.

“I don’t have anyone right there ready to sign, but we’ll look at our options at the start of the week and I’ll compile a list, see what we have to work with.”

Lennon has confirmed he looked into the possibility of signing Stokes, the 27-year-old former Sunderland front man, who has scored 76 goals in a little over three years north of the border.

“We made an enquiry for Anthony but the club weren’t prepared to let him out,” he added, in the Scottish Sun.

The search continues but while goals have been hard to come by this season, Lennon is pleased with how his side are looking defensively.

Derik Osede is likely to come into contention this weekend after recovering from an ankle injury, with David Wheater not far behind after undergoing extensive rehabilitation on back and hamstring problems over the summer.

Full-backs Francesco Pisano and Jose Manuel Casado could also feature for the development squad in the next couple of weeks as they gain match fitness.

Lennon is happy with the options he has in defence, but accepts his squad is still lacking in numbers up front.

“We’ve got two right-backs and two left-backs, which we’ve never had before, and I’m pretty pleased with the way we’ve been defending,” Lennon said.

“Two clean sheets in five isn’t bad at all, we just need to get better at the other end. If we can get it right there, we won’t be far away.

“Hopefully we’ll get the chance to do something about that soon.”
