THE University of Bolton RLR motor racing team put in another strong display to finish 16th overall in the sixth round of the British GT Championships at Brands Hatch.

Drivers Anna Walewska and Rob Garofall followed up a promising performance at the Spa circuit in Belgium last time out with a competitive showing on home soil in the two-hour endurance event.

After a frantic qualifying session, the drivers' combined best lap times helped the Bolton University Ginetta to 22nd place on the grid, sixth best in their GT4 class.

"With the team fired up and the motor in perfect condition, the race start was hectic going into Paddock Hill as some of the GT3 competitors made slight contact and ultimately ran wide," said a team spokesman.

"It was time for the GT4 leader to challenge for a position.

"The first competitor to feel the pressure of the CAPE Ginetta was the AMD Porsche.

"This was passed, along with the two Stratton Motorsport Lotus Evoras and the Aston Martin of JWB Motorsport."

The university team made up six places overall from their starting position on the grid but were not able to make any headway on their GT4 rivals, coming home sixth in class.

And they should be well prepared for the next round at Snetterton after stopping off on their way down to Brands Hatch to get in some valuable test laps.

"The Ginetta G55 GT4 supercar had a test run at Donington Park on the way to the Kent circuit to ensure that all the systems were in order and to also gather important data for the final race in September at the Leicestershire circuit."
