THE summer Arnside Horticultural Show has been hailed 'a huge success'.
The weather remained fine for visitors who enjoyed the spectacular displays in the floral hall.
Although the number of entries were down on the previous year owing to the challenging weather conditions for growers, this was compensated by the quality of the flowers.
The Nicholson Cup for the most points in the flower section was won by Ronnie Holmes. The Sugden Cup for the most points in the vegetables section was won by Bill Stables.
The baking and cookery sections had considerably more entries than in previous years and the quality of exhibits was astounding. The Silcox Cup for the most points in the baking section was won by Mary Stephens and the prize for the best cookery exhibit went to Les Elbourne.
There were also more exhibits in the handicrafts and art sections than in previous years. The Crossfield Challenge Cup for the best Handicraft exhibit was won by Clarissa Bousefield and the prize for the best art exhibit went to Brenda Bainbridge.
